Job Description

We are seeking an experienced IT Finance and Planning Lead to join our AXA Ireland team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the comprehensive management and oversight of all financial aspects related to the IT function. Your key responsibilities will include IT budget planning, forecasting, and tracking to ensure alignment with our broader organisational objectives and maintaining financial transparency.

As the IT Finance and Planning Lead, you will manage budget risks, oversee monthly governance and reporting, and establish effective recharging mechanisms. Collaboration with internal finance teams for accurate reporting is essential, as well as engagement with the wider region and AXA Group to ensure process alignment and adherence to best practices.

You will play an active role in leading initiatives focused on cost management, financial transparency, and process improvement across the local organisation, the UK&I region, and European Markets.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Cost Transparency: Communicate IT costs clearly to internal business units, helping them understand the impact on their operations.
  • Recharging Processes: Develop and manage transparent mechanisms for allocating IT costs across different departments.
  • Business Alignment: Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure IT financial planning aligns with business objectives and priorities.
  • Financial Reporting: Provide regular financial insights and reports to business leaders regarding IT spending and cost management.
  • Cost Efficiency: Drive IT budget management to maximize resource value and ensure investments support high-impact initiatives.
  • Project Support: Allocate financial resources to customer-centric IT projects to enhance experiences and facilitate business transformation.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks within the IT budget, proactively addressing potential variances.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain strong relationships with finance teams, business units, and leadership to ensure financial alignment and transparency.
  • At least 5 years work experience preferred, with at least 3 years in a similar role, with a strong background in financial reporting, budget variance analysis, and governance within an IT or technology-focused environment.
  • A degree or equivalent experience in finance, business, accounting, or engineering is essential. Additional qualifications in accountancy or project management (Prince II, PMI PMBOK, Scrum) are desirable.
  • Proficiency in financial planning, reporting, and management systems such as SAP, Oracle, or other ERP platforms
  • Understanding of IT cost structures, including capital expenditure (CapEx), operational expenditure (OpEx), recharging mechanisms, and relevant financial metrics.
  • Knowledge of financial compliance requirements and governance frameworks applicable to IT and technology investments.
  • Strong skills in influencing and collaborating with cross-functional teams to lead initiatives effectively.
  • High level of accuracy and meticulousness in managing budgets and reporting financial performance, with experience in managing extensive IT budgets, forecasting, and financial planning within a complex organisational structure.
  • Proven ability to identify, manage, and mitigate financial risks related to IT operations and investments.
  • Ability to analyse complex financial data, recognize trends, and provide informed recommendations for financial optimisation.
  • Effective communication abilities to present financial information and insights to senior leadership, finance teams, and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with the insurance industry and/or experience with financial regulators is advantageous.

This role is an allocated Controlled Function under Fitness & Probity Regime, which means the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced level of background screening requirements. You can find more information on axa.ie/careers.
