Role Overview
We are seeking to recruit an experienced and motivated Legal Executive for the In-house Commercial Legal team, which is part of the Irish Life Group Legal Department.
The Group Legal Department fulfils a crucial role in providing accurate, timely and commercial legal advice and support across the Irish Life Group and Canada Life Group subsidiaries (“the Organisation”). The successful candidate will report to the Head of Commercial Legal - Ireland and primarily support commercial-related work but will also be required to support some litigation-related work and manage the general administration requirements of the team in conjunction with the Litigation Legal Executive.
What you will help us to achieve
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Provision of paralegal support to a team of commercial lawyers;
  • Various drafting activities including adapting precedent wording, customising templates, drafting stand-alone clauses and composing bespoke internal communications/external correspondence to a high professional standard;
  • Proof-reading and formatting of various commercial legal agreements;
  • Conducting legal research as requested and preparing memorandum summarising conclusions;
  • Sourcing legal materials, documents and articles as required by the commercial lawyers;
  • Handling correspondence from external parties on a variety of matters and drafting responses;
  • Maintaining and upkeeping of the Legal Sharepoint site;
  • Attending relevant team meetings and forums, preparation and circulation of minutes;
  • Managing general administration requirements of the Legal Department;
  • Arranging for notarisation and apostille of documents and liaising with external firms where required;
  • Preparation of periodic Legal Update Newsletter to the Legal Department;
  • Retrieving documents or deeds from legal strongroom;
  • Providing additional legal support to the lawyers in the wider legal team including the litigation and M&A sub-teams.
What you will need to be successful in the role
  • Graduate (preferably in law) currently working in-house or in legal practice as a Paralegal or very similar relevant experience;
  • Proven high-level drafting skills to meet primary responsibilities for this role;
  • Very legal good research abilities including being able to summarise findings in writing in a clear and concise manner;
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn from experienced legal professionals within team;
  • Advanced experience across all the Microsoft 365 applications and able to assist team members with day-to-day issues;
  • Proficient in the use of IT platforms and computer systems used in the modern office environment;
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills (both written and oral);
  • Ability to prioritise, multi-task when necessary and problem solve;
  • Self-motivated but enjoys working as part of a team;
  • Previous or current experience in insurance/financial services industry is preferable but not essential.
