Overview of the Role

. As an Electrician, you will work on installing and connecting systems ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. This role is hands-on and vital: you’ll be directly responsible for turning clean energy plans into reality, upholding the highest standards of quality and safety. QC qualified, you will take responsibility for signing off SEAI renewable grants.

You will join a team that values craftsmanship, teamwork, and safety within a company culture centered on innovation in renewable energy and customer satisfaction. With our company expanding its project roster, you’ll encounter a variety of installations, giving you opportunities to grow your skills in the cutting-edge field of solar energy.

Key Responsibilities

Execute the electrical installation of systems, including mounting and wiring solar panels, inverters, batteries, and associated equipment in accordance with design specifications and local electrical codes.

* Electrical Connections: Safely connect solar systems to the building’s electrical network and the grid. Install and commission switchgear, circuit breakers, generation meters, and other components to integrate the solar setup seamlessly with existing infrastructure.

* System Testing & Commissioning: Conduct thorough testing of installed systems. Verify proper voltages, currents, and system performance using appropriate testing instruments. Troubleshoot and resolve any electrical issues or wiring errors to ensure the system functions optimally before handover.

* Compliance & Safety: Rigorously adhere to all electrical safety standards and our safety protocols. Use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow lockout/tagout procedures when necessary. Ensure every installation complies with national electrical regulations and passes any required inspections or certifications (for example, completing verification tests for grid connection compliance).

* Quality Workmanship: Take pride in delivering neat, well-organized electrical work. Label circuits, tidy conduits/cabling, and ensure the finished installation not only functions well but also reflects our commitment to quality. Address any on-site modifications with the design team and document changes accurately.

* Maintenance & Support: Occasionally perform maintenance checks or service calls for existing solar installations. Diagnose issues (if systems underperform or experience faults) and carry out repairs or upgrades as needed, minimizing downtime for the customer’s solar generation.

* Team Collaboration: Work closely with the broader installation crew, including roof installers, technicians, and site supervisors. Coordinate tasks efficiently – for example, planning when to run wiring while panels are being mounted – to ensure projects stay on schedule. Provide guidance or mentorship to junior electrical apprentices or technicians on the team, if applicable.

* Customer Interaction: Interact professionally with clients when on-site. Explain basic system operations or answer simple questions the customer may have during or after installation, thereby enhancing the customer-centric experience. Refer any complex queries back to project managers or engineers as appropriate.

* Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about the latest in solar technology and electrical codes. Participate in any offered training on new solar products or installation techniques. Actively contribute suggestions for improving installation practices or safety procedures based on field experience.

Required Qualifications

* Trade Certification: Fully qualified electrician with a recognized certification or license. (For example, in Ireland, a National Craft Certificate in Electrical Installation and current registration with Safe Electric as a Registered Electrical Contractor).

* Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in electrical installation work. Prior experience specifically with solar PV systems or other renewable energy installations is highly preferred. Experience can include residential or commercial electrical projects, with the ability to adapt skills to solar equipment.

* Knowledge: Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring methods, and the national electrical code/regulations relevant to solar (such as IS 10101 in Ireland, or BS 7671 if UK, etc.). Familiarity with PV system components (panels, inverters, battery storage units) and their electrical characteristics.

* Certifications: Additional certifications in safety and solar are a plus. For instance, completion of a PV installation training course (like those offered by SEAI or City &; Guilds in Solar Installation) or an international certification like NABCEP PV Installer (if applicable) is advantageous. Also, valid certifications for Working at Heights, Safe Pass (construction safety awareness), First Aid, or Manual Handling training are important given the nature of the work.

* Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to various project sites. Many installations require travel within the region, and transporting tools/equipment as needed.

* Physical Requirements: Capability to perform physically demanding tasks. This includes working on rooftops, climbing ladders, lifting solar panels or equipment (with safe techniques), and working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Key Competencies and Skills

* Technical Proficiency: Excellent practical skills in electrical installation and troubleshooting. Can read and interpret electrical diagrams and schematics. Adept with hand and power tools used in electrical work (drills, wire crimpers, multimeters, etc.).

* Safety Consciousness: A vigilant attitude toward safety. Consistently follows safety guidelines, anticipates potential hazards, and ensures a safe work environment for oneself and teammates. Knowledgeable about electrical hazards and mitigation (e.g., knows how to safely isolate circuits, use fall-protection equipment on roofs).

* Quality and Detail Orientation: Attentive to detail when it comes to connections, polarity, torque on terminals, and overall system integrity. Double-checks work to catch errors proactively. Keeps accurate notes or documentation of work done, which is important for system commissioning and warranty records.

* Problem-Solving Skills: Able to think on your feet when encountering unexpected site conditions or technical challenges. For example, if wiring routes are blocked or a component is malfunctioning, you can devise alternative solutions or repairs that meet code and performance requirements.

* Teamwork and Communication: Cooperative and easy to work with on a team. Communicates clearly with the site supervisor and colleagues about task status, needs, or issues. Open to feedback and willing to assist others to get the job done. Also capable of guiding apprentices or new team members patiently.

* Reliability: Punctual and dependable. Takes ownership of assignments and follows through until completion. Understands the importance of meeting installation deadlines to keep customers happy and other project phases on track.

* Customer-Focused Attitude: Recognizes that while working on a customer’s property, professionalism is key. Respects the client’s property, cleans up the work site after installation, and interacts courteously. Strives to ensure the customer is pleased with the result before leaving the site.

* Enthusiasm for Renewable Energy: A genuine interest in solar power and green technology. Proud to be doing work that contributes to environmental sustainability. This mindset often reflects in the quality of work and the extra care given to each project, aligning with our values.
