Position Overview
JW Balfour Ltd is seeking a Part-Time Seamstress / Alterations Specialist to join our team. This role focuses on altering, repairing, and tailoring garments primarily uniforms and workwear to meet specific client needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong eye for detail, experience with various fabrics, and confidence using industrial sewing equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform alterations and repairs on a range of garments, including hemming, tapering, adjusting seams, sleeves, and lengths for a precise fit.
- Operate industrial sewing machines, overlock machines, irons, and other alteration tools.
- Measure, mark, and pin fabric to ensure accurate adjustments based on customer requirements or standard sizing.
- Inspect all completed garments to ensure they meet our quality and presentation standards.
- Work collaboratively with the production team to meet deadlines and manage high-volume orders when needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including regular cleaning and care of sewing machines and tools.
- Keep simple records of alterations and modifications made on each garment.
- Support the production team with any additional sewing-related tasks as required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience as a seamstress, alterations specialist, or tailor (experience in a uniform or high-volume setting is an advantage).
- Solid understanding of sewing techniques, garment construction, and alterations.
- Ability to work with various fabrics, including heavy-duty and specialty materials.
- Proficient with industrial sewing machines, overlock machines, and related equipment.
- High attention to detail and accuracy with measurements.
- Reliable, organized, and able to manage time effectively.
- Comfortable working independently as well as within a small team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification or training in sewing, tailoring, or garment construction is an advantage but not essential.
- Experience with pattern making or garment design is a plus.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: €13.50-€16.50 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
