Overview of role:
UPMC is seeking a highly motivated Senior Physiotherapist to lead and develop our new Sports Medicine clinic in UPMC Clane, Co. Kildare. This role presents an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal leadership role in building a centre of excellence for musculoskeletal (MSK) care, performance rehabilitation, and injury prevention. As part of the UPMC Sports Medicine network, the successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team of Sports and Exercise Medicine Consultants, Orthopaedic Consultants, Radiologists, Physiotherapists, and Sports Scientists across our national and international network. You will be responsible for the delivery and development of advanced physiotherapy services, team supervision, pathway integration, and service innovation.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Practice and Leadership
- Deliver expert musculoskeletal physiotherapy assessments and evidence-based interventions.
- Lead the clinical physiotherapy service in UPMC Clane with a focus on excellence in patient outcomes and satisfaction.
- Supervise and mentor junior physiotherapists and support staff.
- Develop and maintain high clinical standards, ensuring continuous quality improvement.
- Act as the clinical lead in multidisciplinary case discussions and complex case management.
Service Development
- Take a leading role in establishing and growing the new physiotherapy and rehabilitation service at UPMC Clane.
- Collaborate with UPMC Sports Medicine leadership to design patient pathways that integrate physiotherapy with diagnostics, surgical interventions, and performance services.
- Identify opportunities to expand community engagement, referral networks, and partnerships with local clubs, gyms, and sporting organisations.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with Sports and Exercise Medicine Consultants, Orthopaedic Surgeons, Radiologists, and Performance Scientists to deliver integrated care.
- Participate in UPMC’s broader Sports Medicine team activities including CPD, research, and protocol development.
- Facilitate patient-centred care by ensuring seamless communication across specialties and locations.
Operational and Administrative Duties
- Manage day to day operations at the site including rotas, stock control, equipment procurement, and scheduling.
- Contribute to the development of outcome measurement tools, audit cycles, and digital record systems.
- Assist in achieving key performance indicators and service efficiency targets.
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- BSc/MSc in Physiotherapy or equivalent qualification.
- CORU registration.
- Minimum 3 years post-graduate clinical experience, with at least 2 years in musculoskeletal or sports physiotherapy.
- Proven leadership experience in clinical or service development.
- Strong manual therapy, rehabilitation, and clinical reasoning skills.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication, organisation, and mentoring skills.
Desirable Criteria
- Postgraduate qualification in Physiotherapy, Health Science, or related field.
- Experience with elite or amateur sports teams or within a sports medicine setting.
- Familiarity with outcome data collection, research, or audit.
- Experience with digital health platforms.
