Role Overview


We are seeking a Telecoms Commercial Lead to oversee commercial performance and support cost control within our telecoms build projects. This role is ideal for someone with a solid understanding of field-based telecoms operations, commercial processes, and project finance. You'll play a pivotal role in ensuring that all works are correctly tracked, valued, invoiced, and reported maximising revenue while controlling cost and risk.


You'll work closely with the Commercial, Operations and Finance teams, building strong relationships internally and externally. This is a hands-on, fast-paced position requiring strong commercial acumen, the ability to lead processes, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities


Commercial Oversight:


Manage and track commercial records to track daily fieldwork, measures, and committed costs.

Work alongside Build and Project Managers to validate cost (supply chain) and value submissions (client), ensuring required substantiation and sign-off protocols are followed.

Lead the preparation and submission of accurate monthly Applications for Payment (AFP) and client payment certs.

Track and claim retention monies when they become due.


Cost Control & Reporting:


Assisting with preparing monthly subcontractor spend projections, track monthly and link to monthly project revenue to monitor profitability, and report key variances.

Prepare sub-contractor monthly proformas including linking to revenue value earned and ensuring payment accuracy against works delivered.

Scrutinise site measures and Schedule of Rates (SoRs) to ensure commercial returns remain aligned to project/package agreed targets.

Track and report commercial KPIs, including revenue forecasts, cost commitments, and margin performance.


Process Management:


Own and manage AFP (Application for Payment) and PO cover processes, ensuring no payment delays due to late submissions or exhausted PO¿s.

Collaborate with the Finance Department to ensure commercial data flows seamlessly for supply chain payments and client invoicing on a weekly / monthly basis.


Stakeholder & Team Leadership:


Engage proactively with internal teams and client commercial counterparts to maintain strong working relationships.

Supervise and mentor junior commercial staff, ensuring development and accountability.

Skills required

What You'll Bring


Experience & Skills:


Minimum 2-3 years' experience in a similar telecoms commercial, utilities or similar role.

Strong knowledge of field-based telecoms build environments (e.g., FTTH, light civils etc).

Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, with working knowledge of Word and PowerPoint.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and challenge constructively.

Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.


Knowledge:


Understanding of subcontract procurement, valuation processes and relationship management.

Commercial awareness of frameworks, SOWs (Scope of Works), SOR (Schedule of Rates) and fixed-rate delivery models.


Technical knowledge in light civils, telecoms, electrical and infrastructure delivery

Educational Requirements

Degree qualified in construction, electrical or telecom sector.
