The Mater Private Network are currently recruiting for a Theatre Porter to join the hospital Theatre Department.
Overview of the Role
The Theatre Porter will:
Work as an active member of the Multidisciplinary Team, providing portering and general operative support to patients and services.
Work under the direction of Head of Department in the performance of a variety of tasks and use own initiative, to support the efficient running of the Hospital.
Ensure required paperwork, stock and equipment are maintained, reviewed and ordered to facilitate service delivery with patients.
Following the appropriate training, the post holder will frequently require exertion of moderate amounts of physical efforts for portering duties for patients, goods and services e.g. pushing patients in wheelchairs, beds, pushing trolleys etc.
Porters will undertake any other duties as may be reasonable and requested by the Head of Department or his / her nominee from time to time.
The duties and responsibilities detailed for the post may vary depending on the hospital requirement. Therefore, the post holder may be required to undertake such other duties provided the general character of the duties or level of responsibility remains unchanged.
Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Support
- Assist nursing in preparing areas for the reception of patients
- Assist with preparation of Theatres for Surgical lists.
Support the nursing/surgical/anaesthetic team in the delivery of patient care in the operating theatre under the supervision of the medical staff
- Assist the nursing/surgical team in positioning the patient for maximum surgical exposure maintaining the patient's dignity, safety and security
- Assist with supporting the patients limbs as directed by the surgical team
- Assist with the transfer of patients to and from all locations in the Theatre Department
- Assist with moving and positioning patients under the direction of the Anaesthetist and nursing staff for maximum surgical exposure maintaining the patient's dignity, safety, and security.
- Moving patients between theatre table and beds and trolley's using sliding roll board with support from the theatre staff, following the manual handling assessment of individual patients.
- Determine medical/positioning equipment needed for all procedures as per consultant preference.
- Ensure all medical/positioning equipment necessary for daily lists is clean and in good working order prior to placing it in the Theatre. Report any defects to the CNM III.
- Placement of pneumatic tourniquet with confirmation of limb pressure with individual surgeon.
