About the Role

The Tax and Transfer Pricing Manager reports to the Group Tax Director and supports various Group functions, including Finance, Legal, HR and Compliance. Its tactical responsibilities feed one larger objective: To continue to develop its in-house tax capability to manage the Group's tax affairs and provide world class tax support to Maples Group. Primary responsibilities include:

Tax Accounting and Compliance

  • Working with Finance to support annual audits and preparation of tax provisions
  • Tax Compliance Oversight: Lead and manage direct tax compliance for the group
  • Reporting and Documentation: Ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of all tax returns and compliance documentation, maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance
  • Engagement with Authorities: Support local Finance teams on direct tax inquiries and audits and assisting on managing tax audits as necessary
  • Technology Development and Implementation: Identify opportunities for development and implementation of new technology and automated processes to increase the efficiency of tax reporting and compliance, while reducing risks associated with manual processes
  • Training and Development: Provide training and support to internal stakeholders on direct tax compliance matters, fostering a culture of tax awareness within the organisation
  • Monitoring impact of Pillar 2 developments on the Maples Group

Transfer Pricing

  • Monitoring and supporting compliance with the Group's transfer pricing arrangements including working with Group Finance in the analysis of the Transfer Pricing methodology to ensure that each entity is abiding by the global Transfer Pricing agreements set out by the Group
  • Ensuring transfer pricing files are complete and up to date
  • Lead global transfer pricing compliance and policy review, including documentation, notifications, and filings.
  • Support transfer pricing process improvements within the tax and finance teams; improving transfer pricing policies, procedures and operations
  • Assisting with transfer pricing inquiries and/or tax audits as they arise
  • Maintain excellent relationships across our finance teams and external advisors and partner with our businesses and executive team to provide commercially focused tax advice
  • Keep up to date on global transfer pricing developments and their impact on the Group, including OECD, UN and country specific developments, ensuring possible effects of changes are addressed

Tax Advisory

  • Supporting ad hoc tax research and planning projects.
  • Advising the finance and business teams on various tax matters (including risk assessment and mitigation planning)

EXPERIENCE

What You Bring

In addition to indisputably high ethical standards and autonomy, the ideal candidate possesses the following:

  • Demonstrable experience in international tax law, including corporate tax, VAT, transfer pricing, and tax compliance for law firms or professional services environments.
  • ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent tax/accountancy qualification, with a strong academic background.
  • Proven ability to provide high-level tax planning and advisory services to senior stakeholders, including partners and executive management.
  • Current understanding of relevant tax legislation, tax authority practices, and regulatory requirements affecting professional services firms.
  • The ability to communicate complex tax issues clearly to both legal professionals and non-specialists.
  • Track record of leading and delivering multiple tax projects simultaneously, often under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to identify tax risks and opportunities within the firm’s business model and contribute to strategic decision-making.
  • High standards of integrity and professional ethics, with a commitment to compliance and best practice.
