Introduction:
CIEE require an instructor to teach a university course ANTH3101 IREL 'Culture and Cuisine in Ireland' to US College students on a study abroad program in Dublin between the 2nd of October and the 6th of November, 2025.
Class will meet for 45 contact hours on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. - 2:00p.m. at CIEE Dublin Study Center, 19 Magennis Place, Dublin 2.
About the course:
In this course, students explore the relationship between the history, identity and culture of Ireland and its gastronomy. Through historical exploration, examination of media, and in-depth analysis, students trace the evolution of Irish gastronomy, starting from ancient traditions and progressing through the influences of geographic, historical, and social factors on the country’s food landscape. Using an anthropological approach, students explore food as a source regional and national identity, Irish food traditions, the role of food in Irish history and culture, the spread and adaptation of Irish cuisine and its culture globally, as well as the dynamic fusion of Irish culinary elements with international influences. Through food-related excursions, guest speakers and practical experiences, students gain a holistic and scholarly perspective on the intricate interplay between culture and cuisine in Ireland.
Candidate:
Applicants should hold an appropriate postgraduate qualification in Anthropoology, Sociology, Social history , Hospitality a cognate discipline.
Experience teaching US College students is an advantage.
The successful candidate will be required to complete a mandatory online training course on Teaching using the Canvas LMS before the course start date.
