The Assistant Director of Studies plays a key role in supporting the academic management and overall success of ILSC Dublin. Working closely with the Director of Studies, this position combines teaching with leadership responsibilities across curriculum delivery, teacher development, student support, and compliance. The role also involves coordinating academic administration and leading the student social program, helping to create an engaging and supportive environment that ensures students achieve their goals and enjoy a rich cultural experience during their time at the school.
JOB DUTIES
The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Academic Support & Program Management
- Assist the Director of Studies in the overall academic management of the school and cover their functions during periods of annual leave.
- Support the design, monitoring, and delivery of group and individual course programs.
- Manage academic resources, including ILSC, Berlitz and other materials, ensuring availability and updates.
- Coordinate academic administration, including placement testing, student records, attendance monitoring, and compliance reporting (GNIB and other regulatory bodies).
- Contribute to curriculum updates and ensure adherence to accreditation requirements and organizational compliance.
Teaching & Teacher Development
- Maintain a teaching schedule of at least 15 hours per week, planning room allocation and class selection.
- Support teacher recruitment, induction, training, and professional development.
- Conduct and assist with teacher observations, appraisals, feedback, and workshops.
- Monitor training needs and make recommendations for improvements in teaching, materials, and processes.
Student Support & Experience
- Assist with student tutorials, individual learning plans, assessments, and feedback.
- Respond to and follow up on student feedback to enhance the learning experience.
- Provide academic guidance to support student progress and satisfaction.
Social Program & Community Engagement
- Lead the planning, promotion, and delivery of the student social program, including activity selection, venue liaison, staffing, and payments.
- Promote activities through social media, online platforms, and designed promotional materials.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team and campus staff to align social media and promotional efforts with wider school and Group marketing initiatives.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- A degree-level qualification (BA or equivalent, ideally in Education, English, Applied Linguistics, or related field).
- A recognised English language teaching certificate (e.g. CELTA, CertTESOL)
- Minimum 3 years' teaching ELL adults
- Some experience with teacher support (e.g. mentoring, observations, running workshops, or assisting in CPD activities).
- Experience with academic administration (e.g. placement testing, timetabling, assessment, or record-keeping).
- Customer service experience with fluency in written and spoken English.

- Strong classroom practice and a continued commitment to professional growth.
- Good organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to balance
teaching (typically 10–15 hours weekly) with administrative responsibilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and management.
- Ability to give constructive feedback and support teacher development.
- Competence with digital tools, student databases, and social media promotion.
- Enthusiasm for fostering student engagement inside and outside the classroom.
