The Director of Studies is the academic leader of ILSC Dublin, responsible for ensuring the highest standards of teaching, curriculum delivery, and student experience. This role combines strategic planning with hands-on leadership of the academic team, driving innovation, quality, and compliance. The DoS plays a pivotal role in shaping the school’s academic direction while fostering a supportive environment for both staff and students.


JOB DUTIES

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:


Strategic & Academic Leadership

  • Partner with the Interim Vice President of Irish Operations and management team to set and deliver the school’s strategy, plans, and KPIs.
  • Provide academic leadership, ensuring high teaching standards through program development, implementation, innovation and quality improvement.

Team Management & Development

  • Lead, develop and inspire the academic team (including ADoS, Senior Teacher and 20 teachers).
  • Oversee recruitment, induction, performance management, and professional development of the academic team, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Ensure clear communication and effective resource allocation across the academic team.

Quality Assurance & Student Experience

  • Monitor and respond to student and agent feedback, ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Oversee placement testing, timetabling, assessments, examinations, and progression tracking to support student success.
  • Ensure accurate academic records and full compliance with INIS and school policies.

Collaboration & Innovation

  • Work closely with sales, marketing, accommodation and other departments to ensure seamless operations.
  • Support student recruitment and agent relationships, and contribute to the development of new educational products.
  • Collaborate with the global ILSC academic team and actively promote ILSC and Berlitz in the sector.

Compliance & Accreditation

  • Maintain and update curriculum frameworks, academic policies, and handbooks.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accreditations, ILEP, health & safety, and TrustEd requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • A recognised English language teaching qualification at diploma level (e.g. DELTA, DipTESOL) or equivalent – or working towards - preferred
  • Knowledge of accreditation and regulatory frameworks (e.g. ILEP, ACELS, or similar) is desirable.
  • At least 5 years’ recent and consecutive experience in English teaching.
  • Leadership and management experience in quality English language institutions.
  • Experienced in teacher recruitment, induction, observation, and professional development.
  • Proven ability to manage timetables, resources, and academic administration.
  • Experience handling compliance, accreditation, and quality assurance processes.
  • Strong track record in student support, assessment, and maintaining a high-quality learning experience.
