Supply Chain & Retail

The On-Demand business is a specialist medical supply business that sources and distributes pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, and consumable supplies to healthcare professionals in over 160 countries worldwide. The company’s main divisions encompass everything from International Sales through Sales to NGO’s and Charities, Clinical Trials Supply, Imported (Unlicensed Medicines), Sexual Health Supplies, and the storage and distribution of medical products and devices for third parties .

The role

This role is to ensure that the welfare of the people, plant and equipment are managed correctly to ensure we deliver a best-in-class service to all our customers in a cost-effective way. The successful applicant will be responsible for the execution of all the activities required to manage the operational responsibilities across Inbound (receiving, put away/replenishment) or Outbound (pick, pack and ship) operations in the Warehouse. Responsible for assisting in the staffing, training, and scheduling of the warehouse team, while maintaining strict adherence to planning hours, warehouse inventory and to achieve productivity goals.

Key Outcomes

  • Shift Performance: allocate resources to ensure all key areas are manned sufficiently to deliver the operational performance required by the business.
  • Provide hands-on supervision for staff to maximise productivity and accuracy in their job functions.
  • Manage and drive the hourly targets set in each area and ensure that these are achieved and report on any exceptions to Management.
  • Effectively utilising Warehouse Management and Control Systems to monitor, manage and troubleshoot shift performance.
  • Ability to understand warehouse management systems and operating principles to drive operational performance.
  • Proactive decision making in relation to interpretation of the warehouse performance data.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and ensure hygiene needs and regulations are adhered to in line with GDP guidelines.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations and best practices, creating a secure workspace for all warehouse staff.
  • Ensure Quality Management and Standard Operating Procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • Ensure that time and attendance records for your team are accurate and up to date on a weekly basis.
  • Supervise daily processes to ensure all Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics are met or exceeded.
  • Assist in the training and development of the warehouse team.
  • Monitor and enhance individual performance through clearly defined expectations, training, coaching and mentoring to achieve desired results.
  • Monitor the performance of the process and the team and report on same.
  • Take an active part in the development of new processes in the business to drive efficiency and productivity across the site.
  • Ensure high standards of communication in all interaction in line with Company Dignity and Respect at Work policy.
  • Ensure smooth and efficient handover of tasks with incoming Operations Supervisor.
  • Must be available to work one out of every three Sundays.

Key Skills & Experiences

  • You will need 3-5 years’ experience in a similar position, ideally in FMCG.
  • Proven experience working in a dynamic fast-paced environment managing large scale diverse teams.
  • Excellent Leadership and Interpersonal skills and the ability to work at different levels in the organisation, inside and outside of the operations function.
  • Very strong communication skills to deal on a regular basis with staff at all levels of the organisation.
  • Proven capability to implement operational improvements to enhance service and productivity.
  • Experience in coaching and developing teams to deliver superior results.
  • Staff management, motivation and influencing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer skills; with experience and knowledge of Warehouse Management Software, Excel and Word.
  • Strong data analytical skills and the ability to interpret data.
  • In depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
