The Role
We are seeking an experienced Transport Assistant with proven road-freight expertise in Ireland or Italy. You will plan and monitor daily collections and deliveries, liaise confidently with hauliers and drivers, and anticipate issues before they affect our operations. The ideal candidate is a natural organiser who thrives in a fast-moving environment and can juggle several priorities without missing a detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan daily national and international road-freight routes, optimising cost, service, and transit times
- Track vehicle movements in real time; proactively resolve delays or compliance issues
- Maintain close, professional contact with hauliers and drivers by phone and email, providing clear instructions and chasing PODs
- Coordinate load bookings, customs documentation, and any temperature-controlled or time-critical requirements
- Keep internal TMS and KPI reports fully up to date, ensuring data accuracy for finance and customer service teams
- Work closely with Purchasing, Warehouse, and Quality teams to align transport plans with production and delivery schedules
- Contribute ideas for continuous improvement in efficiency, cost control, and customer satisfaction
Candidate Profile
Must-Have:
- Minimum 1 year recent experience in Irish or Italian road-freight operations (e.g. planner, dispatcher, coordinator)
- Strong route-planning, load-building, and back-haul optimisation skills
- Confident communicator on the phone; able to build firm but friendly relationships with hauliers
- Acute attention to detail and methodical record-keeping
- Proven ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure
Desirable:
- Ability to conduct business in Italian (spoken & written)
- Familiarity with supermarket vendor booking portals
- Working knowledge of ERP/TMS software
- Experience with perishable or temperature-controlled cargo
- CPC or other transport-related qualification
