Are you ready to lead the charge in diagnostic innovation? This is a unique opportunity to shape and drive cutting-edge diagnostic capabilities across AstraZeneca’s R&D organisation. Working from our facility in Dublin, Republic of Ireland, and with a focus on pioneering AI and digital platforms, this role is pivotal in advancing our global R&D pipeline. You'll lead an international team of diagnostic experts, aligned to precision medicine strategies across Oncology and Biopharma portfolios. We're looking for a visionary scientific leader with a strong track record in biomarker and diagnostic innovation, especially in digital and AI-driven tools, deep experience in global development, regulatory pathways, and delivery of companion/disease diagnostics, proven leadership of global teams aligned with AstraZeneca’s values, and strategic influence across financial, reputational, and scientific dimensions.

Accountabilities

Are you ready to spearhead diagnostic, AI, and digital strategies to support global R&D portfolios? Represent the function at senior governance interactions and lead senior Precision Medicine leaders to deliver cross-functional impact. Shape diagnostic strategies aligned with R&D goals across Oncology and Biopharma, and identify synergies with Rare Disease. Build and nurture external scientific and diagnostic networks within the Republic of Ireland and globally. Champion innovative digital tools to enhance quality, speed, and productivity. Develop and implement new methodologies that drive business value. Ensure compliance with GCP, safety, and regulatory standards across all activities. Embed best-in-class scientific processes and policies across R&D. Collaborate with partner functions and global leaders to ensure consistent, integrated decision-making. Inspire, develop, and retain top talent aligned with strategic workforce plans. Manage significant departmental and project budgets effectively.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • The role holder must be tax resident in the Republic of Ireland
  • Advanced degree (PhD/ MD) in a relevant discipline
  • Evidence of a proven, successful record in:
  • biomarker and diagnostic innovation, especially digital and AI-driven tools
  • global development, regulatory pathways, and delivery of companion/disease diagnostics
  • leadership of global teams, aligned with AstraZeneca’s values
  • strategic influence across significant financial, reputational, and scientific dimensions
  • A deep and broad understanding of the global pharmaceutical industry and of the key sources of value within the industry

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Record of delivery in AI/ digital biomarkers/ diagnostics
  • Understands financial, commercial and scientific/technical context of diagnostic development
  • Operational expertise in risk management and contingency planning
  • Expertise in a broad range of diagnostic platforms and thinking
  • Knowledge of AstraZeneca policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Understanding of AstraZeneca, its people strategy, business, products, and R&D processes
  • Understanding of AstraZeneca’s global Business performance relative to that of our global peers
