The Great Southern Killarney is looking for an energetic, friendly and experienced part -time Leisure Attendant with Lifeguard to join our team. The ideal candidate is someone who is approachable, professional and enjoys the fast pace of working in a large dynamic environment. Someone who can consistently provide a high standard of service and contribute to the overall guest experience.
Purpose of the position
Leisure Attendant/Lifeguard is responsible for the prevention of accidents as well as the minimization and elimination of hazardous conditions in all Leisure Centre and swimming pool areas. In addition, Leisure Attendant/Lifeguard will have a natural flair for working with children and have the willingness to work across various fields in the Leisure Centre, including reception and cleaning duties.
Shifts are primarily weekday evenings (6–10 pm), weekend evenings (3–9 pm or 5–9 pm), with occasional daytime shifts during weekends, Bank Holidays and midterms (10 am–6 pm).
Key delivery areas:
- Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility
- Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency
- Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services
- Present a professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service
- Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions as scheduled
- Maintain a clean facility performing house cleaning duties
- Responsible for the safety of participants in the pool
- Begin and end class on time, remain after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed, and clean up supplies
- Submit completed report cards, skills sheets and attendance information on time
- Perform water chemical balance tests
- Maintaining all areas of leisure centre, including equipment and linen cupboards / stores / pantries in a clean, hygienic and tidy condition
- Ensuring that all chemicals used in Leisure Centre is replenished as required and that the Supervisor is made aware of the need to order chemical stocks to ensure the continuity of service
- Ensuring that infection control policies are strictly adhered to
- Ensure that all items of Leisure Centre, equipment and utilities are in a good state of repair and bringing to the attention of management where any items require replacement and highlighting any items or areas that need maintenance
- To understand responsibilities in relation to Fire Procedures, Health and Safety, Infection Control and Emergency Aid
- To undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post
- Maintain stock levels of stationary, linen, towels and amenity requirements on in order to ensure consistency in standards
- Maintain a safe and hygienic working environment in all back of house areas and report any lost property and maintenance issues to your manager / supervisor
- Ensure consistency and speed of service
- To observe safe working practices in carrying out the required duties and ensure that instructions specified are adhered to
- Comply with Health & Safety regulations
Role Requirements:
- At least 1 year experience in a similar role preferred
- Qualification in Life-guarding (Irish Water Safety Pool Lifeguard or equivalent) Essential
- Qualification in Occupational First Aid would be an advantage
- Fitness instructor/personal trainer would be an advantage
- Knowledge of and the ability to demonstrate skills in swim lessons instruction
- Ability to demonstrate skills as required for class content and use teaching aids such as kick-boards, diving rings, life jackets, etc.
- Thorough Understanding of the importance of Customer Experience and uncompromising standards of excellence
- High Attention to Detail
- Willingness to work in various functions across departments
- Great communication skills – ability to clearly communicate with guests and management and staff across a variety of nationalities and experience levels
- Fluent English (written and verbal)
- Energetic, Friendly, Approachable, Professional, Courteous and Well Groomed
- Have the ability to maintain accuracy and speed whilst working under pressure
- Focused on providing a consistently high standard of service and hygiene
- Be standards driven, a team player, flexible
- Possess the ability to work under pressure
