As Ireland’s national public service media organisation RTÉ News and Current Affairs provides independent and trusted news and current affairs content across multiple platforms.
We are looking to refresh our Multi Media journalist panel to fill future vacancies and temporary gaps in the rosters that arise occasionally due to leave and other absences. This panel will be in place for a period of two years.
The Multi Media Journalists work on RTÉ News and Current Affairs platforms. These include the RTÉ News App, which is Ireland’s most popular news app, as well as flagship programmes including Morning Ireland, News at One, Six One and Nine o’clock News, Nationwide, Prime Time, RTÉ Investigates and Nuacht RTÉ.
About the role:
We would like to hear from you if you have a competence to work through Irish or have a knowledge of other European languages or if you have experience of, or an interest in business, sport, politics or television news production.
A full driving licence is an advantage as this role can require travel. However, we welcome applications from candidates who do not drive as some assignments can be newsroom based.

About the role:
- Report on issues of local, national and international interest for all RTÉ News and Current Affairs platforms.
- Generate, break and verify stories for seven-day week output on digital, television and radio.
- Work quickly and accurately in a live, breaking news environment.
- Write and sub-edit news bulletins and online content for tight deadlines.
- Recognise legal and copyright issues surrounding news reporting.
- Involves working shifts across weekdays, weekends & public holidays.
- Experienced journalist with sound editorial judgement and a thorough understanding of the workings of the institutions of the State.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and working under pressure to tight deadlines.
- Digital skills (e.g. social media storytelling, video editing, podcasting or data journalism) and broadcast experience are a plus, though not essential.
- Familiarity in the use, reach and needs of all media platforms.
- Display an in-depth knowledge of news and current affairs with awareness of changing technologies in delivering news content.
- Have good interpersonal skills and an ability to work well with others.
- Bring fresh perspectives or lived experience that can help us reach and reflect the full diversity of Ireland’s communities.
